It's been already since a year since the fabulous designs of Poul Brouwer were showed at the graduation show of the Rietveld Academie. Then it was still shown in the Gerrit Rietveld Academie itself, this year though they made a choice for a more holy environment.
The old church, the Paradiso in the middle of the heart of amsterdam.
This holistic atmosphere gave it all another spirit. Next to my emotional bound with the graduation class of this year, since it was the class I was in before I switched to another fashion school, I also got touched a lot by Nikki Millioni with "ORAMA".
This dutch half greece young fashion designer had a beautiful concept of making a sense out of her garments. Not just the sense to be pretty but the sense of healing, sense of helping someone else who is without any clothes.
She designed her whole collection for poor children in Greece who are finding themselves in the named situation above. By showing her designs not with a hard sound of fashion sounds she decided to let children sing a mantra.
Tears were running down my cheeks. This is courage for me, this is a conceptual Rietveld thinking which can touch you in a suprising manner.
The other graduates are Alla Kuzmyk, who had a collection inspired by her russian routes , "stenciled by communism" where she definitely got peoples attention next to her refined menswear design with a red beautiful man look.
Charlote Beeck "On the Road" showed her Trucker inspired mens collection and made me smile with her cactus accessories as a handbag.
Verena Michels, "Trümmerfrau" introduced the knittwear in a contemporary way for women, very wearable and I could see myself wearing some of her garments which is always a good sign.
Tümay Faydaci, might be the girl with the most unicorn friends of all of the graduates, she made me happy with pastel hair colored models and balloons everywhere.
Last drama show was done by Duran Lantik with "Acensu et Decensu", the guy with the 9O cms high 3D printed shoes and the daring see-through black garments for man and woman.

All in all a fashion show, definitely a fashion show where you could see how much the level of the rietveld academie rised.
I was personally also very excited about 2nd year students, especially Tijme Veldt, he used fabrics which were rainbow radiating, super curious to see his final collection next year....

LOVE to Rietveld and all the Lovers for Fashion.
